Bubbles

Hmmmm- Beth asked us to capture a still life this week.  I suppose this fits.  A long while back I was inspired by a few different bloggers to give this bubbly fruit photography a try.  Head on over to visit Karli or Mira to see the original inspiration.  But this past week my friend Jaymi  posted her own version of the fruit in bubbles as she was also inspired by Karli & in turn she has inspired me to give it a try again.  Now- they are no where near as beautiful as Jaymi's and I feel there is a lot I would like to improve upon. But the whole purpose of this blog is to document my learning journey & give me a way to easily look back at my progress.  I mean - I just spent this past weekend looking at posts from October & I am shocked at my progression just since then.  I was cringing to think that I posted what I did but I was sure happy that I didn't pay to print all those out but I was able to have them available to look back on.   So while I will most assuredly look back on these 6-12 months from now & cringe again- it will be good to have them to compare to and I know they are better than many I have taken in the past & improvement- not perfection, is what matters right now.  Besides- it gave me some time with my macro extension tube. That one is tricky as it forces me to manually focus. While I always shoot in full manual for my camera settings- I also always use auto-focus if I have it available. So this was a good practice session for me.

Gina these came out GREAT!!! Great idea to try a strawberry! I definitely want to try this again with different backgrounds and different fruits. So many possibilities! But don't be so hard on yourself, I think yours came out great and the detail in the bubbles and the seeds is really cool!

Strawberries! The grocery store is selling teeny-tiny baskets of them here in Romania for a bajillion lei a piece. I walk by them and take a big sniff. Come on, spring! I need fresh berries!

These look so fun and are nicely done! I don't know how you get those bubbles, so I guess I should follow your links!

I know exactly what you mean about looking back and being astounded at progress. It is all about the journey...and what a fun, challenging, journey it is!

I've been wanting to try this too. I just have the macro filters which are also tricky to focus manually, and they only fit on my kit lens. I was thinking about getting the extension tubes to see how they work.

I think these shots came out great! I really love the clarity and the blue background with the bright berries.

ARGH...manual focus gets the best of me EVERY time! Gorgeous color and texture from the bubbles!

AWESOME close-ups! I tried it about a year ago. Here's mine, if you want to take a look. I've gotta try again. :)

I think these turned out great. I love the color pop of the red strawberries. I understand the whole "looking back and cringing at what I've posted thing." Good luck in your journey of improvement! Also, thanks for visit my blog!

I think these are fabulous and so close! I'm sure there will be no cringing necessary. I still need to try this myself. One day I'll get around to it!
